How to set up "Draw and Cut" shadow box layer for Cricut, Silhouette and Brother ScanNCut

Some of my shadow box templates include a layer that need draw and cut. And this is how you can set up the files for your machine to recognize the "draw line".

For Cricut

  • Ungroup the layers
  • Find a subgroup that contains draw and cut layers.
  • Change the operation of the upper layer in that group to "Pen" or "Foil".
  • Select that group and choose "Attach".

For Silhouette

  • Make the Line or Fill color of the drawing details and the cutting details differently.
  • Click "SEND" and go to the "Line" or "Fill" tab.
  • Choose "Sketch" action for the corresponding color.
  • Turn OFF the cut color, put the pen to the cartridge and click "SEND" for the machine to draw first.
  • Keep the mat, switch to the blade, turn OFF the sketch color and turn ON the cut color. Click "SEND" to cut the layer.

For Canvas Workspace (PC version)

  • Go to the "Layers" panel and find the layer that need to draw.
  • Select it and go to the "Properties" panel. Change its operation to "Draw".
  • Back to the "Layers" panel. Select the drawing layer and the cutting layer below. Group them together.
  • Export each layers to your machine to (draw and) cut.
